Layering two sweaters — or in this case, a sweater tee and a draped cardigan — is one of those styling techniques that looks like you really thought about it, but takes about 30 seconds of styling. The key is texture contrast (a smoother tee under a chunkier knit), staying within the same color family, and wearing the outer layer off your shoulders rather than on them. Trust the drape, my friends. It does all the work. Plus the slightly deeper yellow tone of the cardigan against the butter tee creates just enough contrast to make the layering intentional — not accidental.
The foundation of this look is this (back in stock!) Gap’s CashSoft tee with fabric that is so soft, almost-cashmere like that makes a $35 tee punch way above its price point. The pale lemon color is warm enough to flatter a range of skin tones, and the elbow sleeve length hits that sweet spot. It’s the kind of layering base you’ll reach for on repeat. I’m in the large but it runs generously. Find it here!
My friends, if you don’t own a pair of these 90s Gap jeans yet, consider this your sign. The medium wash is a true wardrobe neutral. The high rise and straight leg silhouette is flattering across body types and feels very ‘90s French girl,’ which is ever the vibe I’m going for. I’m in the 30 regular length. Find them here!
If you’re on the fence about a monochrome color moment or layering sweaters, you can always start with a neutral shade (or go full lemon like I did!) and I promise you this look is more wearable than you think.
