Well, my friends, it was another very successful Nuuly box this month. I am 2 for 2 this year and I am feeling like a professional over here. (Don’t worry, it WILL go to my head, I WILL get too cocky and it WILL be my downfall.) Joking aside, I do feel like I’ve broken the code with Nuuly and me. (Turns out my rental report really helped!) I know what I will and won’t wear and I feel like I’m picking correctly based on the season it actually is versus the one that lives in my head. I feel like I’m ‘shopping’ Nuuly in a completely different way than I did last year and I’m getting a lot more use out of it because of it.

Below are my 6 items I rented this month along with my ratings / reviews!

(Side note: I didn’t mean to make my eye makeup so dark in these photos. I was editing these photos thinking ‘wow I really meant it with that smokey eye.’ I messed up my eyeliner a few times and kept taking it off / redoing it but I think I was just making my eye makeup smudgier and smudgier. Plus it was dark outside when we shot and that always makes a different with makeup and lighting. Despite what my makeup says, I did not go to a night club after this 9 am photo shoot.)

If you are new here, I wanted to try out a clothing rental service and I chose Nuuly. Nuuly charges $98 once a month and you get to choose 6 items to wear all month long then you send the pieces back. You can check out the Nuuly website here.

Each month I calculate the cost per wear for each pieces in my nuuly box. Here are the numbers: each box is $98 for 6 pieces. (For consistency, I’m leaving out taxes here since it will differ for each state.) So if you take the $98 divided by the 6 items, it’s about $16.33 per item, if you wear each item one time. Every item’s cost of $16.33 will be divided by the frequency of wear. (i.e. Cost of item rental ÷ times piece was worn = rental price per wear). Just to go a step too far, I’ve also broken down each piece with a rating system and a review for each item below.

MY RATING SYSTEM:

⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑ = would consider buying full price / will miss it when it’s gone!
⭑⭑⭑⭑ = really liked it, would prefer to buy on sale
⭑⭑⭑ = on the fence, liked it but can’t see myself wearing that often / buy on sale only
⭑⭑ = liked but didn’t wear it at all or found it hard to style
⭑ = didn’t like it / didn’t fit

FREE PEOPLE AMY SWEATER| ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 8
CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $2.04

I was sad to send this one back! The only reason I didn’t keep it was because it’s the large and after wearing it all month I think I’d prefer the medium. It’s cotton so it stretches out with wear and it’s just a looser fit anyways. Loose and boxy fit. It’s a great weight going into spring and I didn’t find one thing it didn’t go with easily. Great sweater for your closet if you are looking for that one piece that goes with everything.

Find it under $100 here. I would size down for a closer fit.

Favorite Daughter The Everything Pant | ⭑⭑⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 8
CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $2.04

Guess what?? I kept them. I went back and forth but I was sad packing them up and they were discounted $40* with an extra $20 off promo so I bought them. The $60 off got me, you guys. I knew I probably wouldn’t find them on sale for a while so I took the plunge. I’ve loved wearing them this month and they’re a great weight to keep wearing through the next few seasons too. They work outside of winter, to be honest. I can see them with a cute tank in summer, as well.

This pair of pants is a tightly woven viscose, so they’re semi-opaque and airy. They’re such a nice weight for spring, as well. I am in the large and they fit perfectly loose and they’re plenty long! If I were to buy this style again, I’d get the large again as well.

Find this pair here.

*Nuuly discounts items in your box each month in hopes you’ll keep it. So these pants were automatically 20% off and they were running a promo for an extra $20. I’ve noticed the more worn it is or the more rented it has been, the more the discount is. Most of the time though, everything is about 20% off although I’ve seen up to 60% off on some pieces!

Final Verdict: Kept!

Alex Mill Cotton Cardigan | ⭑⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 4
CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $4.08

I love this cardigan and I love Alex Mill’s pieces. But I’ve made a decision: I think Alex Mill is a rent not a buy for me. I’ve thought a lot about this and honestly if I needed a heavier weight cardigan into spring, I would have kept this one. But I see it more as an east coast spring sweater than a middle of Texas sweater. (For instance, it’s 83 degrees today. I’m sweating.) All of Alex Mill’s pieces are thick, heavy weight, high quality pieces. Like there is a reason it’s higher priced. But I use each piece for about as long as I rent it and then the seasonality of it has passed. This cardigan will be too warm in a month you know? But if you want a very nice, long lasting cotton cardigan, Alex Mill has them.

I am a large across the board at Alex Mill and this was the large. It fit looser / relaxed but overall I would say true to size.

Agolde Arc Jeans | ⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 4
CONDITION: GOOD USED CONDITION
COST PER WEAR: $4.08

Hmmm. So this pair I was less enthused with the more I wore them throughout the month. I loved what I love about all high rise Agolde’s with a button fly: that they hold you in. I didn’t love the shape of these jeans as much. I can’t tell if they’re a barrel, straight leg or wide leg. Or maybe all three in one? I appreciated the length as I’m really trying to not buy cropped or ankle jeans (turns out I hate them). But this might have been a bit too long for my liking.

However, this just once again puts positive marks in place for rental services. I can try all the denim I want and figure out what I do like / don’t like and nothing is wasted. I can send this pair of jeans back to the next person who wants to give them a wear. I know now that I don’t love this shape, this length and I still love Agolde 90% of the time.

My only complaint on the condition of these was the rolled hemline. I steamed and steamed them and it kept rolling up. I think this probably happened when someone washed them and it dried this way but no matter what I did, it stayed flipped up. Small complaint, really. But had I loved this pair of denim enough to keep, that little flip would have made me pass.

Find this pair here. (I’m in the 30, my Agolde TTS)

Final Verdict: Returned

Madewell Emmet Wide Leg Jeans | ⭑⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 6
CONDITION: GOOD USED CONDITION
COST PER WEAR: $2.72

You know, it’s kind of a shame that Madewell didn’t keep this shape of denim. I like this shape of Emmett without the giant pockets in front. But I digress. This pair of denim was a very helpful rental this month. I’ve sold all of my white jeans and I need a new pair but I honestly can’t decide on the shape. I went with a cropped wide leg with this pair and for March I rented a wide leg full length. So we will see what I find to be the most wearable.

This pair was in good condition. A bit worn but nothing crazy. I found I couldn’t quite steam out all the wrinkles, despite trying but that’s just from normal wash and wear with denim that has elastane in it. Fit was TTS as well.

Maeve Lace Trim Tank | ⭑⭑⭑⭑
TIMES WORN OVER THE MONTH: 1
CONDITION: NEW WITH TAGS
COST PER WEAR: $16.33

You know I thought I’d wear this tank a lot more than I did. I’ve been wanting to wear my oversized blazers lately and needed a camisole, so I rented one. This one is a touch big (this is the large) and it wasn’t as comfortable as I hoped. The neckline kept dropping and I would constantly have to adjust it. I don’t know if I would have reached for it more in the medium, but overall this was just a touch too big for me to use it well.

You can find it here. Size down!

Final Verdict: Returned
