I don’t know if you’ve noticed lately but my try ons have changed a bit. I’m leaning more into items that I am actually looking for, more than just trying on anything and everything that catches my eye. I don’t know if this is more helpful or less, but it does cut down on my own overconsumption and helps me drill down into what I’m actually going to wear. (If that makes sense! Being an influencer for 15 years can really skew your shopping habits but more on that another time.) This rings true for this try on; I had a list of things I was looking for this fall and I had these items in my cart for weeks. This wasn’t an ‘oh shit I need a try on this week’ this was I’m actually into and loving these pieces. Is it flashy? It is not. But I found a few pieces that I put my name behind.
Side note: I only have a few pieces from Old Navy (two to be exact!) because we were actually stopping in for my daughter, not for me. I couldn’t pass up these two pieces I saw so I through I’d include them here, but I do think that an Old Navy try on may be due soon.

High Rise Barrel Jeans
I have been on the hunt for some black barrel jeans and while I love my denim ones from Madewell, I wanted a different fit and shape. The Madewell ones have a slightly more relaxed fit in the waist / hips, they kind of remind me of boyfriend jeans in a way. But these from Gap are EXACTLY what I was looking for. They’re a high waist, 100% cotton no stretch and they fit so well. The waist / hip portion is more fitted and girl is it flattering. The barrel shape is there but it’s subtle, it’s more subtle than the Madewell ones but still there. I LOVE THEM. If you are wanting to give this trend a try, this is a nice gateway into it. These give a subtle nod to the trend without feeling like you just got off of a horse.
I am in the 30. When I see no stretch, I size up. I would suggest the same if you have a rounder waist. If not, get your typical size because the no stretch really only affects the waist / hips.

Mid Rise UltraSoft Baggy Jeans
I’ve had my eyes on these for a while but I was going back and forth between their many different rinses and hues. At first I thought just go with blue denim but then I realized I have a lot of blue wide legs, so let’s go with this brown for fall. And girl, it’s the right choice. It’s this deep chocolate acid wash rinse and they are so soft. I don’t know if I would say ‘ultra soft’ that seems like a reach but they are a softer denim and they have a nice flowy fit. They are a true mid-rise as well, if you don’t love a high rise. I am in the 29, true to size fit with a hint of stretch. I do think they’ll stretch out over time as well.
Find them under $100 here.

Satin Ruffle Tie-Front Top
This Old Navy top surprised me in the best way! When I saw it in store it was a bit rumpled, wrinkled but I knew it had potential with a good steam and some styling. I was right! I steamed this baby out and she came alive. I sized up to a large for a more boho feel / look but overall it fits true to size. If you want it to fit more like it does on the model, stay TTS.
Let’s talk quality and fabric. Overall it has a lot of ruffles, seams going on but it’s well sewn and made. The ties are nice that you can tie the neckline up or leave it open. The fabric is 100% polyester and she is not even hiding it. So it is a stiffer feel which is a bit of a tell when you’re up close and of course, it’s not going to ‘breathe’ as well as cotton or linen. Sometimes you can’t tell how it’s going to feel from photos, so I wanted to be up front with the fabric. Overall it’s a nice piece that will have lots of wear throughout fall and again in spring.

Long Barn Coat
I just did a post on barn jackets last week and lo and behold, look what I found the minute I walked into Old Navy. This is like if a trench coat and a barn jacket had a baby. I gave this one a hard steam, as we must do with all things Old Navy, and she looks like a thousand bucks. (Saying a million bucks is a stretch, we both know it.) The lapels are a navy corduroy and it buttons all the way down without a tie around the middle. I like this because it gives the jacket more of the barn coat aesthetic than a true trench. It is fully lined and there are side pockets. When worn buttoned down it has a more a-line shape, it doesn’t ‘come in’ at the waist like a trench does, it’s a looser relaxed fit overall.
As far as fit goes, this jacket runs BIG. I am in the medium and it fits like a loose large. I would say that unless you plan on layering a lot under here, then go down a size. As far as the sleeve length, these were long on me which is wild because this never happens. If you are petite, definitely go down a size / this might not be for you! For us tall girls with long arms, this jacket is for you.

Mid Rise UltraSoft Easy Horseshoe Jeans
Remember these jeans from here? It’s the same ones but in black! I loved those jeans even through the summer and I have been wanting a black option for fall. Why? Because drawstring. That’s why. They’re so easy to wear, so comfortable too. They don’t seem like jeans but they are! They have a nice structure to them but they fit like sweatpants in a way. They’re are a lot of options but this is the black (not the black wash) and they’re a true denim. I am in the medium, fit is loose / generous but overall TTS. Size down if you’re in between sizes.
(I’m sorry you can’t see more detail here! Noted when taking all black outfit photos.)

Supima Cotton Relaxed Tee
I’ve spoken about this tee before as it is my favorite basic tee I’ve found. It fits perfectly relaxed and I love the longer sleeve length. Finding longer lengths in t-shirts that don’t look matronly is a skill these days. But this one fits boxy, relaxed and with the longer sleeve length, it looks chic and not sloppy. The fabric is a smooth cotton and it stays smooth even after washing. I do not dry this tee because I don’t want to risk changing the fit and I don’t want to damage the fabric. But I can contest that even after a wash, it comes out good as new.
I am in the medium and it fits perfectly medium. Relaxed and loose but somehow still tailored.
